The Rookwood Weir Project in Central Queensland is a project that goes the extra mile when it comes to strong workplace mental health and wellbeing!
The project is comprised of Sunwater, Acciona, GHD, and McCosker. Even before picking up tools to commence project-enabling work like accommodation and access roads, the team earlier got together for a BBQ and toolbox talk about mental health. 150 workers have since taken part in GAT training last month, and of these, 25% have volunteered to step up as Connectors – an extraordinary rate, and a strong indication of an emerging safety culture around mental health.
Further GAT sessions are anticipated as the project gains momentum. The project has already supported five team members to attend ASIST training in Rockhampton last month where they learned about world’s best practice in suicide intervention. We were beyond humbled this month when all four partners in the project collectively endorsed the Blueprint For Better Mental Health & Suicide Prevention in the Building & Construction Industry!
In the process, we’ve got to learn about some of the great strategies implemented through the partnership to support good mental health on site, including special consideration for the stresses workers may face working away from family and friends.
