The overall evaluation compares participant responses before, immediately after, and at three months post-training in the MATES Respond Program. The evaluation also uses data from semi-structured interviews with participants who put the program into practice to gain insights into the effectiveness of the program.

Bayesian networks (BNs) are used to explore connections between several key factors that are expected to contribute to an outcome of primary interest to the research. To answer this question, we drew on survey responses obtained from 2,715 construction workers. The survey included questions about general mental health, and from this, we were able to classify workers as exhibiting higher levels of mental health (labelled “typical”) and lower levels of mental health (labelled “not-typical”).

The Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention (AISRAP), in close collaboration with MATES developed a two-Phase evaluation strategy for the training.
